Time and Date

Start practicing to read your times and dates.  Europe more commonly uses 24 hour time (military time), especially on public transportation.  The easiest way to convert the 24 hour time is to subtract 12 from any time past noon.  For example if the time reads 15:39, subtract 12 from the first number and you get the time.  15-12 = 3, which mean 3:39 p.m.

The dates are also different, which to me makes more sense than the way we do ours in the US.  They use day/month/year (small, medium, large unit of time).  We'll be leaving for Italy on 17/5/12 and returning on 1/6/12.  Confusing?  Start practicing!  Messing these up can make all the difference in the world, especially on any important paperwork you might have to do at banks or in case of an emergency, or also for reserving tickets at attractions you plan on doing on your own.

Tips for Traveling by Yahoo....

Here are some basic travel pointers.  These are for travelers who are doing it alone but they can be applied to our travels as well.  I hope everyone is doing some research on where we're going and apply it to these tips.  I know they all make Europe out to be a back alley in Atlantic city, which it is not, but its always good to be thinking outside the box and what is going on in the town/city we'll be in.

Packing Lists

Below are a couple lists for items you may be taking to Italy.  The main thing is to make your own list and not pack too much, always leave room for souvenirs, make sure your bag won't weigh over 50 pounds and take less than you think you need.  I also never take anything I'd be upset about losing or getting broken - for instance I don't take my $60 bottle of cologne but a $2 can of body spray.  I also leave my favorite shirts and shoes at home in case my bag gets lost or stolen.
